Draft updated

This page explains storage, retention and deletion. Read it with the privacy policy, which covers legal grounds, recipients and your rights.

EU launch draft — not yet in force. These pages include proposed procedures and identify details and controls that we must confirm before publication.

On your device and in your account

Cast stores downloads, preferences and cached app data on your device. The current chat stays in app memory for the active episode; it is not a permanent account archive. It also stores account details and supported library, listening and preference data on its servers. Signing out, clearing a local file and deleting an account are different actions.

Removing a downloaded episode removes the local audio copy. It does not erase listening history or cancel a subscription. A list that shows your last 100 episodes is a display limit, not a promise that the service stores no older records.

AI and podcast material

AI requests can include questions, chat context and podcast material. Voice input turns speech into text on your device, and the recognised text can then form part of your AI request. Cloud transcription of microphone recordings and podcast audio is disabled. Disabling new transcription does not itself erase records from earlier processing.

Cast also stores or caches podcast metadata, transcripts, text indexes, chapters and other derived content. Shared records can remain after a listener deletes their account, but they can still contain personal information about speakers or people discussed. We assess requests about that information separately.

Public availability of a feed does not give Cast unlimited rights to copy, retain or reuse it. A private-feed link may contain an access token; do not include it in an ordinary support email. Ask for a secure way to share it if it is needed.

Retention

We must keep personal information only for as long as its stated purpose requires. Different records need different limits:

  • Account and synced library records: while needed for the account service, followed by deletion when the account closes, subject to a specific lawful reason to retain a limited record.
  • Waitlist records: while needed to send the launch or beta messages you requested, ending when you withdraw or that purpose ends. A minimal suppression record may be needed to respect an opt-out.
  • Content reports and appeals: while needed to investigate, explain a decision and handle a challenge. Any further retention must have a recorded legal or claims-related reason.
  • Security and diagnostic records: for the period needed to detect or resolve a fault or incident, with a longer hold only for an identified investigation or legal duty.
  • Purchase records: for access checks and applicable accounting or legal duties. Apple's own records follow its retention rules.
  • Analytics, AI supplier records, backups and shared content: specific limits depend on the purpose, contracts and actual settings. We must verify them before stating a deletion deadline.

Current limit of this draft: these are retention criteria, not evidence that expiry or deletion jobs are running. We have not verified a complete production retention schedule. Before this draft takes effect, we must set and enforce limits for these records and publish the periods or specific criteria that apply. We do not promise instant erasure of every copy.

Deleting your account

In the app, open Settings → Account → Delete account and complete the confirmation. Cast's account deletion process removes the account and linked records such as your profile, follows, saved episodes and listening history. It also clears the account session and supported local account preferences.

Account deletion does not automatically cancel an Apple subscription or request a refund. Manage Cast+ renewal separately; see the refund policy. Remove downloaded audio separately if you want to clear those files too.

The app's deletion action does not by itself erase separate waitlist entries, every service log or backup, or records held by Apple, Superwall, Mixpanel or AI suppliers. It also does not remove shared podcast content solely because one listener leaves.

A wider deletion or access request

Email danny@usecast.app if you want a copy of your data, a correction, or erasure beyond the in-app action. You can use this route if you cannot sign in. We will assess records Cast controls, including relevant supplier-held records, rather than treating account deletion as the whole request.

Where we must retain information, we will explain the reason, restrict its use and give the applicable period or criteria. Where a supplier controls its own records, we will explain how to contact it. Backups need a defined expiry and a process that reapplies deletions if we restore them; those controls still need production verification.

The privacy policy explains response times, identity checks and complaint rights. Use the content policy to report unlawful material, a rights issue or an inaccurate transcript.
